I need a new roof on the bookstore!

The British Bibliophile called me early this morning and said that a portion of the ceiling tile and the roof was now on the floor in the women's romance section.

I called the landlord left a message, then called the handyman. he said he won't be there until later this afternoon. It's a lovely start of the day.

Grief Strikes!

One of my all time favorite novelists, Robert Parker, died yesterday. Parker wrote numerous books featuring "Spencer", "Jesse Stone", and several great westerns.

Todays Reading Materials...

Today, I'm reading the romantic fiction of Judy Garlock. She's such a lovely escapist read. Her characters are easily categorized into 'friends', 'family', 'worthy of my love', and the other despicable characters that populate the rest of the book. The gentleman in the books are easily distinguished between 'good guy' and 'bad guy', and the heroine always learns to discriminate between the two quickly! There is always a learning curve and the explanation of how the heroine determines others' character and morals.

Last night went to Ephrata's Chamber of Commerce dinner and had way too much to drink, danced my little heart out in my gold adidas hi-tops, and enjoyed my friends immensely. Thank You.

Family Matters

What am I reading today? two books, actually. One is Diana Gabaldon's new book "An Echo in the Bone". Its book 7 in the "Claire and Jamie" series. I love her books because of the detail and humanity of her characters, her turn of phrase, and the descriptiveness of her landscapes and geography. The other book is about alzheimers... and speaking of alzheimers, my father is going down hill rapidly despite good care, good doctors, and medication. So, the family is a-sizzling about what to do - and whose actual responsibility it is. I know, in the end, its my moral responsibility because he is my father; however, I have no legal authority and responsibility because Dad's Lady-Friend has the power of attorney, the Medical authority, etc., etc.,

I love my family. FML.

Taking Care of Business

It's Saturday in January. Freezing rain last night and the roads are still wet. There's still a scrape of ice on the sidewalk despite my scraping and throwing rock salt. And business is slow. I mean slow, slow, slow. Custody dads with their darlings have been in and that is about it.

Today is an acquaintance' funeral and I'm not attending; I'm sure that he would understand that I'm taking care of business today.
